Frequently Asked Questions

Support questions

Do you offer additional services for magnetic design/recommendation?

We are working closely together with vendors of magnetic circuitries as well with research and design houses for such services.

What is the Hall effect?

The Hall effect refers to the potential difference (Hall voltage) on the opposite sides of an electrical conductor through which an electric current is flowing, created by a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the current. Edwin Hall discovered this effect in 1879.

The ratio of the voltage created to the power of the product of the amount of current and the magnetic field (I*B), divided by the element thickness, is known as the Hall coefficient. It is a characteristic of the material from which the conductor is made; therefore, its value depends on the type, number and properties of the charge carriers that constitute the current.

What kind of sensors do you offer?

We offer a wide range of monolithic hall effect sensors manufactured in CMOS technology. In general we can differentiate between simple hall switches to supply an on/off signal or more complex linear hall sensors giving a linear output. Some of the sensors are programmable as per customers application needs.

Where and how can I buy a programming kit?

They can be ordered via email at hje@ecs-electronic.de

Where can I find TDK-Micronas products/references?

Micronas products can be found in virtually every currently produced car in the world. They are a highly reliable solution aimed at 0ppm targets, a key drivering force in the automotive industry. Beside that, our products have made their way into industrial applications, offering the same benefits to our customers as in the automotive arena.

Where can I get technical support?

If you are already in contact with one of our representatives, you may email him directly. Otherwise for general support, please use the following email address: support_sensor@micronas.com

Which automotive applications do you address

We address virtually every automotive application requiring a robust and reliable magnetic sensor solution.

Which parameter can I detect/measure with a hall effect sensor?

With a hall effect sensor you can directly measure parameters such as position as well as linear/angular movement. You can also measure indirect parameters such as current, pressure, RPM and velocity.
