HAL 35xy
Stray-Field Robust 3D Position Sensors with Analog/PWN/SENT Interfaces
Short Description
HAL 3550 and HAR 3550 are a new generation of 2D position sensors from TDK-Micronas addressing the need for stray-field robust position sensors (linear and angular) as well as the ISO 26262 compliant development.
This new generation builds upon the well known HAL/HAR/HAC 39xy family.
HAL/HAR 3550 is targeting mainstream applications requiring a device with a core feature set and less flexibility without making compromises on functional safety and performance.
HAL 3550 and HAR 3550 can measure a 360° angular range as well as linear movements.
Both devices feature a linear, ratiometric analog output with passive wire-break detection, as well as configurable PWM or SENT outputs.
The SENT mode supports messages with or without pause pulse, adhering to SAE J2716 rev. 4 standard with customizable parameters such as tick time and frame format.
The PWM output offers flexibility with frequencies ranging from 0.1 kHz to 2 kHz.
In addition a switch output derived from calculated position information or other sources along the signal path is available as an additional output signal.
All devices offer setpoint linearization with either 17 equidistant setpoints or 7 setpoints with variable distance / step size between the setpoints.
The sensors measure the position of a magnet based on 3D HAL technology from TDK‑Micronas.
The devices are able to suppress external magnetic stray fields by using an array of Hall plates.
Only a simple two-pole magnet is required to measure a rotation angle. Off-axis measurements are also possible.
The sensors are defined as SEooC (Safety Element out of Context) ASIL C ready according to ISO 26262.
Major characteristics like gain and offset, reference position, etc. can be adjusted to the magnetic circuitry by programming the non-volatile memory.
The devices are designed for operation in an ambient temperature range of –40 °C up to 150 °C.
The HAL 3550 device, the single-die version, is available in a very small eight-pin SOIC8 package.
The HAR 3550 device, the dual-die version, is available in a small sixteen-pin TSSOP16 SMD package with full redundancy. Each sensor contains two independent dies that are mechanically separated and electrically insulated.
