Freiburg, Germany, December 28, 2005 - Micronas (SWX Swiss Exchange: MASN) will demonstrate its latest generation HD motion compensation technology at CES 2006 (LVCC, booth 35346 in hall SO4). Motion compensation technology eliminates the unpleasant "judder" that appears when film source material, either from broadcast or a playback device, is viewed on HDTVs. Micronas will demonstrate at CES how its technology delivers unprecedented high-definition image quality to large-screen digital TV sets.

Movies are filmed at 24 frames per second (fps). Today, even premium HDTVs simply repeat frames to display them on 60 Hz NTSC/ATSC television sets. Object movement or camera panning causes judder. Micronas' motion compensation technology, called Real Motion®, fills in additional frames which represent the actual object positions in between the original images, creating a realistic motion sequence and a much more enjoyable viewing experience. Real Motion has now been enhanced to process images in full-HDTV resolution (1920x1080 pixel). The advantages of this technology are quite visible on screens larger than 32 inches (80 cm). The new Micronas Real Motion HD takes TV viewing experience to a new level and sets the benchmark for picture quality in HDTVs.

Leading OEMs have adopted Micronas' previous motion compensation technology for standard-definition TV, realized with the FRC 94xyA product family, and have since been providing their customers with judder-free standard-definition TV movies from broadcast and DVD playback. By working closely with major TV manufacturers, the chip family's performance and quality have been continuously improved. Micronas has now been able to make this proven technology fit for high-definition TVs with large advanced LCD and Plasma screens, as well as projection engines.

"Consumers who have bought TV sets equipped with Micronas Real Motion are very happy with it and will no longer accept lower quality images," says Patrik Lind, product marketing manager at Micronas. "We are proud to be the first company to offer the extremely high performance needed for HDTV motion compensation at this quality level.
