Seven Hall sensor families in five years

Munich, November 12, 1998 -

At Electronica'98, MICRONAS INTERMETALL  presents the worl's first programmable CMOS Hall sensor with digital signal processing. This new product, bearing the type designation HAL 800, marks the latest pinnacle in a development which also began with a world premiere in 1993 when the first CMOS Hall sensor was launched as a wear-free alternative to mechanical switches.

Each of the sensor types mentioned is available in several versions which differ in terms of their switching or output characteristics; with some types, certain parameters are mask-programmable to match customer requirements. All Hall sensors from MICRONAS INTERMETALL  operate within a wide supply voltage range (typically 4.5…24 V, HAL 5xx upwards of 3.8 V) and are available for different temperature ranges (typically -40…150 °C).

Summary of Hall sensor families from MICRONAS INTERMETALL

HAL 11x
Low-cost Hall switch with open-drain output, conforming to the automotive industr's EMC/ESD standards.

HAL 3xx
Highly sensitive static differential field sensors with chopper offset compensation and a max. operating voltage of 24 V. The HAL 300 is optimized for multi-pole ring applications, the HAL 320 for back-bias applications.

HAL 4xx
Linear sensors with differential output and chopper offset compensation.

HAL 5xx
Universal Hall switch with chopper offset compensation, max. operating voltage of 24 V and mask-programmable switching thresholds.

HAL 5x6
Two-wire design of Hall switch series HAL 5xx with integrated, mask-programmable current source.

HAL 6xx
Static Hall sensor for precise evaluation of high-speed signals "low jitte") with chopper offset compensation and wide operating temperature range from -40…170 °C.

HAL 800
EEPROM-programmable linear sensor with ratiometric output behaviour, hence especially suitable for potentiometer applications or for angular measurement. With chopper offset compensation and wide operating temperature range from -40…170 °C. Automatic in-process adjustment of the sensor possible (TCST, total compensation of system tolerance).

Available package types

All Hall switches are available both in the leaded package TO-92UA and in the SMD package SOT-89A. The linear Hall sensors HAL 4xx are supplied in the SMD package SOT-89A, the HAL 800 in the leaded package TO-92T3. As from the first quarter of 1999, all sensors (with the exception of HAL 800) will also be available in the new, low-profile SMD package SOT-89B.
