Micronas' Austrian Development Center moved to Technology Park Villach-St. Magdalen (0124)
Villach, Austria - October 2001 - Micronas Halbleiterentwicklungs GmbH is the first research & development center for microelectronics that has moved into the Technology Park Villach-St. Magdalen in Austria.
The semiconductor development center which houses 20 staff members consisting of system level engineers, layout and measurement engineers is mainly engaged in the research and development of digital and analog design. To cover the full range of required development know-how, Micronas is planning to further expand its R&D center in Villach.
In Villach, Micronas focuses on the design of integrated microelectronic circuits, specifically on the development and instrumental evaluation of high-speed and high-resolution analog and mixed-signal circuits such as A/D and D/A-converters or frequency generators in the GHz range. A second core area is the design and development of digital circuits and ICs for next- generation television applications, for example TeleWeb and interactive digital television, as well as display systems, such as flat panel displays.
The analog and digital circuits developed in Villach enable the realization of complete system solutions on a single chip - 100 Hz TV systems, for example. Systems-on-a-chip can be deployed in multiple applications, and due to the reduced number of components, they offer significant cost savings to the manufacturer.
The company's headquarters and production facilities are located in Freiburg, Germany, with sales offices in Europe, U.S. and Asia. A test center is based in Glenrothes, Scotland. With last year's acquisition of the image and video division from Infineon Technologies, the Micronas group added sales and marketing offices in Munich and Nuremberg and IC development offices in Munich and Villach.
In November 2000, Micronas founded the Micronas Halbleiterentwicklungs GmbH (Micronas semiconductor development company) in Austria.
The move into the Villach-St. Magdalen Technology Park reflects Micronas' commitment to the Villach economy and city. The Micronas Halbleiterentwicklungs GmbH is the second development center for microelectronics in the Austrian Federal State of Carinthia.
