Programmable Hall-effect Sensor Replaces Mechanical Potentiometers and Angle Measuring Devices (9804)

- Trade News | 9804

Solution for automotive and industrial applications:

Freiburg (Germany), August 24, 1998 - MICRONAS INTERMETALL, leading manufacturer of mixed-signal ICs, automotive controllers, and Hall-effect sensors, presents its new linear Hall-effect sensor HAL 800 as a contact-free alternative to mechanical potentiometers and angle measuring devices. The HAL 800 is the worl's first Hall-effect sensor featuring programmable, digital on-chip signal processing which permits matching to different applications and systems, as well as automatic, electronic in-line adjustment.

The sensor, produced in submicron CMOS technology, delivers an analog output signal which is proportional to the external magnetic field. Therefore, it is suitable for a wide range of position, distance, and angle-measuring applications; potential automotive applications include level transmitters for headlamp beam control, position transmitters for the throttle valve, as well as electronic pedals "drive-by-wir").

Samples of the HAL 800 are available; high-volume production of the sensor is scheduled to start at the beginning of 1999.
