- Trade News | 9908

Freiburg, August 23, 1999 - On the occasion of the IFA '99 at Berlin, the chip manufacturer Micronas once again demonstrates its competence as a system supplier. The company offers its customers suitable system proposals or even reference designs already geared to production requirements for all new IC products for video and audio applications. The equipment manufacturers derive benefits from this prior input in the form of lower design costs and a faster time-to-market for their products.

Two topical examples:

"MUSTAFAH" (MultiStandard Television Application for Fifty and Hundred Hz CTVs) is a "global chassis" concept for television receivers that not only supports all TV standards worldwide, but is also suitable for two different equipment categories. Both single-scan and double-scan receivers at the middle and top of the range can be implemented on the basis of MUSTAFAH in a wide spectrum of specifications.

"Dolby Digital" (Digital Audio Compression Standard AC3) is a digital, multi-channel surround sound system which provides unsurpassed spatial quality. Dolby Digital sources already available include feature films on DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) and digital TV programs. Micronas offers a complete Digital Dolby decoder chipset for the equipment of TV sets and AV receivers.

With these and other systems, Micronas continues its long-established and successful application-oriented product strategy which has been responsible for achieving such milestones as the digital WorldSpace radio receiver and the MP3 player. Micronas has always aimed to offer customers comprehensive application support and thereby provide them with real market advantages. Thanks to its close cooperation with the equipment manufacturers, Micronas is in turn capable of identifying new trends and getting the appropriate product developments off the ground at an early stage.
